RECENT PROJECTS
Solar & battery installation
TAMAHERE · SIGENERGY
Tamahere Solar & Battery Installation
A full Sigenergy solar and battery system for a Tamahere home, designed to cut grid reliance and support future EV charging. Excess daytime solar is stored, then used to power the home and charge the car when it's needed.
The system included a 13kW solar array, dual battery setup with 9kW and 6kW storage capacity, and an integrated EV charger system — all connected through the Sigenergy ecosystem for seamless energy management.
WHATAWHATA · SOLAR + BATTERY BACKUP
Whatawhata solar & battery backup installation
We designed and installed a 13 kW solar system with a 15 kW battery backup for a homeowner in Whatawhata, just west of Hamilton.
We paired the array with a 15 kW inverter, which gives the system room to add more panels later without replacing the inverter. During the day the panels power the house and charge the battery. In the evening, or if the grid goes down, the home runs on stored solar.

Good questions

How much do solar panels cost in Hamilton?
A grid-tied solar system starts from $13,000, solar with a battery from $17,000, and a full solar, battery and EV charger setup from $20,000. Your final price depends on system size, your roof and site, and the components you choose. We give you a fixed, upfront quote after a site visit.
Can an electrician install solar panels?
Yes, and the electrical side has to be done by one. Connecting panels, inverters and batteries to your switchboard is prescribed electrical work, so it must be done by a licensed electrician. We’re licensed electricians, so we design, install and connect the whole system ourselves.
Can I install solar panels myself?
No. In New Zealand, solar systems must be installed and connected by a licensed electrician to meet electrical safety regulations. A DIY install can also void your panel and inverter warranties.
Do I need a battery?
Not always. Without one, any solar you don’t use during the day is exported to the grid, usually for a low buyback rate. A battery stores it so you can use it in the evening instead. We’ll look at how and when you use power and tell you honestly whether one is worth it for you.
Can I charge my EV with solar?
Yes. A smart charger can send surplus solar straight into your car during the day, or charge it from your battery at night. We install the panels, battery and charger as one system, so they work together from day one.
How long does installation take?
Most systems are installed in 1 to 2 days once your design and quote are approved.
How do I choose the right solar company in Hamilton?
Look for licensed electricians rather than panel installers alone, a strong local reputation and clear, upfront pricing. Ask who will actually do the electrical work, and who you’ll call if something goes wrong later. At Alectrics, it’s the same local team from quote to aftercare.
Why should I hire certified solar electricians for my installation?
Hiring certified solar electricians in Hamilton ensures your system is installed safely and meets all NZ electrical regulations. It also guarantees your solar panels integrate correctly with your switchboard, battery storage, or EV charger. Unqualified installation can void warranties, reduce performance, or even pose safety risks. Alectrics is fully certified and experienced in both residential and commercial solar systems.
What’s the difference between residential and commercial solar installation in Hamilton?
Mostly scale. Home systems are sized for daily household use. Commercial systems are larger, use higher-capacity panels and often connect to more complex electrical setups. We design and install both, based on your building, energy use and budget.
Do I need council consent?
Most residential rooftop installs don’t need building consent. If yours does, for example because of the roof structure or a ground-mounted array, we’ll let you know and handle the paperwork.
