Is a COV the same as an electrical inspection?
No. A COV is a formal compliance verification carried out under AS/NZS 3019 by a Registered Electrical Inspector.
A standard electrical inspection is a general safety assessment and does not provide certification.
Is a COV the same as an EWOF?
No. An EWOF applies to mobile units (caravans, motorhomes, food trucks).
A COV applies to fixed electrical installations in buildings.
When is a COV legally required?
A COV is typically required when:
Power has been disconnected for 6 months or more
Requested by insurance companies
Required by local councils
Electrical history is unknown or incomplete
Who can issue a Certificate of Verification?
Only a Registered Electrical Inspector is authorised to issue a COV.
How long does a COV inspection take?
Most inspections take 1–3 hours, depending on property size and testing level.
